Senate Orders CBN To Suspend ATM Maintenance Charges, Increase Withdrawal To N40,000 The Nigerian senate on Wednesday, October 17, directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to inform all commercial banks in the country to increase the maximum amount customers can withdraw from automated teller machines (ATMs) to N40,000 per transaction. Presently, the maximum withdrawal is N20,000. The senate also asked the apex bank to suspend ATM card maintenance fees. The upper legislative chamber directed its committees on banking and finance to conduct an investigation into the propriety of ATM card maintenance charges and to also invite Godwin Emefiele, governor of CBN, to explain why the charges are allegedly skewed in favour of the banks. This was after a motion on “illicit and excessive charges by Nigerian banks in customers accounts” was raised by Senator Gbenga Ashafa during the plenary session on Wednesday. KANU SPEAKS: ‘IPOB will not participate in any election and that position will never change’

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has finally spoken from Israel where he has been in hiding. He vowed that IPOB will never participate in any election until its demand for referendum is granted. He also vowed not to return to the Federal High Court in Abuja where he was standing trial before he left the country, saying he was no longer a Nigerian citizen and could not tried by a Nigerian court. In a broadcast via Radio Biafra on Sunday, Kanu maintained his defiant stance against the Nigerian state and promised “hell” upon his return. EFCC incurs N600m fine for declaring two Rivers govt officials wanted

2'   Published October 4, 2018 Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt A High Court in Port Harcourt on Thursday ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to pay the sum of N600m ‘exemplary damages’ to two Rivers State Government officials for investigating and declaring them wanted. The two officials are the State Accountant General, Frederick Dagogo-Abere; and former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Lekia Bukpo. They were among those accused by the anti-graft agency of withdrawing N117bn from state government coffers. The judge, Justice George Omereji, in his ruling, declared that the anti-graft agency violated the fundamental rights of the officials by investigating the Rivers State Government’s account. He stated that the action was in disobedience of a subsisting court order restraining the Commission from investigating the state government account. Justice Omereji said he was embarrassed by the actions of the EFC
